Brazil Spices Market: A Blend of Tradition, Health, and Digital Commerce

The Brazil spices market is poised for robust growth, driven by a powerful confluence of cultural tradition, surging health consciousness, and modernization in retail. Valued highly and projected to expand significantly, the market sees its foundation in local agricultural strength and the deep integration of spices into Brazilian culinary identity. A key accelerator is the growing adoption of organic farming practices, responding to increasing consumer demand for natural ingredients free from synthetic additives, aligning with broader wellness trends.

Traditional Brazilian staples continue to dominate, with garlic, ginger, and black pepper maintaining strong positions due to their extensive use in both everyday cooking and medicinal applications. However, the market is also seeing a dynamic rise in demand for functional spices like turmeric and cinnamon, which are appealing to health-conscious consumers for their perceived benefits beyond flavor. This blend of traditional and functional demand reflects an evolving consumer palate that values both…

To kominka owners who are also forest owners, what value do you put on your forest? What plans do you in mind?

Hello everyone! My name is Chris Uchiyama and I wanted to know how kominka owners perceive their forests. If you own a forest or use one, may I ask you to contribute to the following survey by letting me know your insights and perceptions?

Through your answers/responses, I hope to explore people's and society's perceptions of the value of forests, including their cultural significance, and identify strategies to restore a sustainable and harmonious relationship between humans, society, and forests.

Rest assured that responses will be kept anonymous. Thank you very much for your contributions, inputs, thoughts and questions, if any. You can also contact me via christmas.uchiyama@gmail.com.

Winter Gardening

What type of vegetables are you growing in the winter that thrive or are an important part of your diet? Recently I had a lot of deer problems, and unfortunately, much of my main prized cabbage and cauliflower were eaten. In fact, they even went for my garlic which I never expected. However, the leafy greens such as mizunam spinach, salad greens, chingensai and daikon were luckily spared. Those are perfect items for a winter hot pot.

Using reclaimed materials in renovations

I would be curious to know if people are using old or new materials in renovations or a mix of both.

Old materials for areas that you want to show off, have that patina. Flooring, for example. But new materials are fine where it's going to be hidden, such as joists or plasterboard underneath shikkui. The key, I think, is to avoid a clash of design sense.
